The founder and
designer behind Create and Wander
Storytime...
From a small town girl to a traveling free spirit.
I grew up on a farm in Ohio with my family. I raised sheep, horses, and played sports. And fun fact: I won the Miniature Horse World Championship after taking my first flight to Texas to enter. My small-town lifestyle gave me a million memories and taught me a lot of valuable lessons, but there was something tugging at my heart. I felt called to try something new. Go somewhere different.
Maybe it was the travel stories a group of Europeans told me during my senior year of college. Stories of places I’ve never been and cultures I’ve never experienced. Maybe it was this untapped adventurous spirit I never knew I had. No matter what, I knew I needed to fly solo and explore something on my own.
Trading in my country girl roots by selling my last sheep
At this point, I had been in the sheep business for over 15 years. It was my only source of income. So at 22, when I decided to sell my last sheep to pay for a one-month-long trip to Europe, you can bet my heart was pounding. But this trip sparked it all. My desire to think bigger, dream harder, and shake up my comfort zone.
After the trip, I started freelancing as a designer. I was working long hours, and although I really enjoyed the job–something in my soul was whispering that I was meant to go out on my own instead of working for someone else.
Falling in love with design and a path less traveled
So I chased the west coast dream and moved to California. I started freelancing remotely for a bunch of different design agencies. Ditching the long work days, I made a name for myself in the San Diego design community. I also started signing my own clients and expanded outside of agency work. I was working remotely from home, until one day, I realized that I don’t have to be home.
That marked the beginning of me living out my dream life of solo traveling the world while empowering others through design and adventure. 65+ countries and 7 continents later and a plethora of bold women served, the Create and Wander vision continues to grow.
